Terri'sYard Sale and Swap Meet Tips

I find wonderful deals at Yard Sales and Swap Meets. These vary greatly by area and price. Go early on Saturdays for best selection, and midday on Sunday for best bargaining power. You never know what you may find.

Many different things can be altered; lamps, frames and even clothes! Just think out of the box while you are looking around.

Here are some ideas:

Small Lamp: A great object to alter, paint, paper or fabic, the list is endless. Pick up that $2 lamp and see what you can make it with it.

Clothes: I have ripped shirts apart to make ribbon. I have taken the pockets of jeans and placed on

my scrapbook pages as a pocket or as an embellishment.

Books: You can use a book for many things: Make an altered book or rip the pages out for embellishments or background work. There are also childrens board books - these make wonderful

altered books or mini scrapbooks...

China: Break up the china and use it as mosic tiles. Look for the chipped pieces and try to get a bargan!

Steampunk: Pick up old watches and use the gears...

Free stuff (or at least close to free):
Chip board: Get free chip board from cereal boxes or other container boxes... You can die cut them or use for making books.

File Folders: Old file folders make great tags... cut or die cut your tag.
Coffee Filters: NEW ones make great mini books or cut out shapes from them to make embellishments.

Old Books: Old school books or other books can become an altered book, or just rip the pages out and use for die cuts or collages.

Paper Clips: Make wonderful emblishments.

Old Stamps: Make wonderful embellishments.

Old Clothes: Cut the pocket out for embelishments, cut them into strips for ribbons, remove all buttons

and use as embellishments.

Schoolsand some libraries have die cut machines that you can use.
